The last meeting of Pontesbury Parish Council was due to be held on 11 December 2017 at Mary Webb School & Science College, but due to the severe weather conditions this meeting was postponed.
We have received concerns from a local group that their article for the newsletter was reduced in size. Please be aware that the Parish Council part-funds this newsletter for the benefit of the whole community and we try our hardest to be fair to all organisations in allowing space in the newsletter. We have a limited budget, which therefore restricts the number of pages we can print for each issue. The Parish Council itself is restricted on the space that we can use. When there are lots of articles/information the editor has the authority to cut copy, though every effort is made to accommodate whatever is submitted.
If you are concerned your article may be too long, please liaise with our editor at firstname.lastname@example.org, bearing in mind it’s not possible to predict how much space will be available as contributors often submit items after the deadline, which is always the 10th of the previous month. Again, every effort is made to accommodate them, although there is no obligation to do so. We also have the Pontesbury Parish website which can be used to put additional information on – which your article can redirect readers to. If you require any further clarification on this matter, please contact the Parish Clerk.
Pontesbury Parish Neighbourhood Plan
There has been a delay starting the Neighbourhood Plan as we were waiting for Shropshire Council’s Local Plan review consultation details before agreeing how to proceed. A number of local people have expressed an interest in being involved and they have been contacted again. If anyone else is interested, please contact the Parish Clerk as it is planned to have a meeting in the New Year to agree membership of the steering committee. Even if you do not wish to be on the Steering Committee we will still need volunteers to assist with specific jobs, so please let us know if you would like to help.
Dog fouling continues to be a problem around the village and on the new cycleway between Pontesbury and Minsterley. Please remember dog fouling is both unpleasant and potentially dangerous, as dog faeces carry bacteria that can harm children. The Shropshire Council Dog Warden has been asked to place additional notices on the lamp posts to remind dog walkers that it is an offence, punishable by a fine, to fail to clean up after your dog when it has fouled the footpath or any other designated area. If you see someone not clearing up after their dog, please report it to Shropshire Council by calling 0345 678 9006 or online on Shropshire Council’s website (search “dog” at the top of the home page). If it is a persistent problem, please provide as much information as possible, such as at what time the incidents are occurring, a description of the dog walker and dog, and where the fouling has occurred. Shropshire Council’s patrols can then be targeted more efficiently.
