News from the Library: February '18

Once upon a time, in the village of Pontesbury there was a library. The library was in a little wooden hut at the foot of the very famous Elephant Hill. Once a month, on a Monday morning, the children were entertained with stories and jolly rhymes. But Monday wasn’t a very good day for a lot of people. So the library ladies Mrs Linkabelle and Mrs Bonnet asked the help of the Jennifer Fairies, sometimes called Jen and Jenny. (Not to be confused with Jenny who magics books back onto the shelves.) They are going to entertain the pre-school children with singing and stories of awe and wonder on the first Thursday of each month at the new time of 2.30. We hope the new time will be very good for filling a little gap between lunch and school pick-up.
The first Story Time will be on 1 February at 2.30pm
In other news, on Saturday 3 February we are looking forward to the arrival of the library sculpture. The sculptor, Bill Sample, will be unveiling the piece and will talk about his work. Keep an eye out for posters with full details.

News from the Library: January 2018

Happy New Year! I am writing this in December having had to close the library due to the snow. I don’t recall ever having to do that before. Let’s see what January brings.
The Atlantic ladies have set off on their way across the ocean. We will be following their course on our library map, and giving updates from their blog.
The library will be having an ‘Arty’ 2018. There will be the official unveiling of a sculpture in front of the library, a reading and book launch by a new local author as well as other art and craft displays. We had some beautiful glasswork on display during December. We will be looking for ideas for future dates, if you have something to share with the community, let us or one of the ‘Friends’ know.
As I say every year, should you be making a new year’s resolution, or taking up a new hobby, I am sure we will have a book on the subject. Pop along and have a look or for 70p we can request one in for you.
Story Time will be at 10.30 am on 8 January. We are looking into perhaps changing the time and day for this in the future, so if you have any preferences or comments please let us know.

News from the Library: December '17

We now have a very large map of the world on the library wall, ready to plot the course of the Atlantic Ladies. Around the map is a display showing details of their attempt to break three world records while rowing across the Atlantic competing in the Tailsker Challenge. We also have a collection of books based on similar adventure experiences.
We have loads of books to help you get ready for Christmas. Books to create and make decorations, cookery books, and plenty of winter warming, festive fiction. The Christmas fun starts in the library on Sunday 3 December with the annual Santa Run (or walk). Look out for the posters for full details, or pop in to the library.
Pontesbury Library will be closing over the Christmas period, our last day will be 21 December, and we will re-open on 2 January 2018. Extra books may be taken. No books will be due back during this period so please try and hang on to them until the 2 January. I will spare you my usual joke about mountaineering!
Story Time for babies and toddlers will be 4 December at 10.30.
Merry Christmas!
